Meet Your Artist: Sara Willadsen
Who are you? What do you do?
My name is Sara Willadsen and I am a visual artist and freelance designer from Sheboygan Falls, Wisconsin. I received my M.F.A. in Painting from Northern Illinois University in 2014 and my B.A. in Fine Arts and Graphic Arts from Lakeland College in 2010.
At present I am completing an artist residency at Eastside International in Los Angeles, CA that concludes in mid to late November.
Why did you want to be involved in ARTiculture?
My interest in ARTiculture lies in my strong desire to connect with other artists and those who support the arts. I feel that it is vital to not only engage with my local art community but also those at a larger scale, and I think my involvement with ARTiculture is a great opportunity to do this.
What are you creating for the CSA? How do you make it?
My CSA proposal consists of 25 one-of-a-kind mixed media pieces on 10″x10” paper. Upon completion, these will then be adhered to wired panels.
I am using a variety of supplies including fabric, graphite, spray paint, gouache, miscellaneous found materials and laser cut elements to create abstract, imagined spaces. All of these mediums are part of an additive and quick-paced intuitive process where I work on many pieces simultaneously and allow them to influence each other.
The funding I receive for this endeavor is going towards materials as well as residency fees so that I can work in the studio full-time and draw on ideas from my Los Angeles observations.
